Immersion in Nature is an exhibition of work by Roberts Creek-based artist Lucas Kratochwil.

The exhibition Immersion in Nature, seeks to bring back the attention of the viewer toward nature and remind us we are here only as visitors and it is our responsibility to take care of this planet. These paintings aim to have viewers feel immersed in nature, struck, non-existing, in complete awe, and at peace.

“We live in a society where we’re constantly obsessing with ourselves. We seem to forget we’re surrounded by life on this beautiful planet. I want to bring back the attention of the viewer towards nature and remind us that we’re here only as visitors and it’s our responsibility to take care of this planet. With my paintings, I want people to feel immersed in nature. To show them the might and beauty that resides in mountains, lakes and valleys. I want people to feel what I feel when I’m in front of a mountain: struck, non-existing, in complete awe, inspired and at peace.”

Lucas is a third-generation painter, who lives and works out of British Columbia, creating large-scale realistic landscape oil paintings. His contemporary approach, combined with decades of painting experience, result in striking compositions that pull the viewer in as if looking at nature directly.

His style calls for hundreds of hours of dedication, both painting in his studio as well as exploring nature.

“I call my style ‘Experiential Realism’, a realistic depiction of the experiences I had while being immersed in nature.”

In a time where everything is mass-produced and delivered in an instant, working with such dedication on a single piece truly consists of an act of passion, determination and devotion to a higher ideal. The ideal of true art, for humanity.
