Weaving with Invasive Species: with Cease Wyss, Jaz Whitford, joined by The Only Animal and artists Noor Ghazal and Anata LayLay.

Join us at wa shew̓áy̓ ta x̱wítl’em on August 13th at 4pm to sit with artists Cease Wyss, Jaz Whitford, Noor Ghazal and Anata LayLay to collectively process and practice weaving with invasive iris that was removed from the pond on site as part of the remediation plan for the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw wetland on site. The Sunshine Coast Arts Council will be collaborating with The Only Animal theatre society to host this gathering, all materials, and some snacks, will be provided. This will be a relaxed gathering free and open to all. wa shew̓áy̓ ta x̱wítl’em “Growing String/ Fibres” is the name of this project given by Senaqwila Wyss, you are invited to participate in the process of creating art from the fibre grown on site, one of the earliest intentions of this project and an inspiration for the name. We will gather on the newly built accessible cedar deck beside the KIOSK in the upper field of the Persephone beer farm. We look forward to meeting you there.

Territorial Acknowledgement

For thousands of years the shíshálh and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh people have stewarded this land, their own (unceded) traditional territory. The SCAC is grateful to gather on these lands and waters, and we work from a place of respect and responsibility to this gift.
