A cultural geographer and self-taught watercolourist, my love of sketching and painting developed in tandem with my academic interests. Some 50 years of research and teaching, both in Canada and around the world, have provided innumerable opportunities to study the relationship between people and environment as etched in the landscape. For me, landscape painting elicits appreciation of natural processes, reflection on the historical past and awareness of the potentialities of human action. My work has been exhibited in eleven countries. My greatest pleasure though, since moving to the Sunshine Coast in 2012, is having a gallery, Watercolour Journey, where I can share some of my interpretations with visitors.
