Ibis, Ibis Copper, Sunny Days in Egypt, Sunny Days in Egypt Copper
The concepts of these works began in a junkyard looking for scraps of copper. I found two copper plates that were memorials from the British army. The plaques are from the period of Egyptian occupation 1882-1956. The plaques depict Egyptian landscapes, dates, and names of the English companies that were stationed there. I admire Egyptian art and had an intense experience during the revolution. I was compelled to do something with the plates. I made one into a sun face and the other into an Ibis by soldering bits of copper to the surfaces. The plates were etched, then color printed, which gave the work another dimension and image.
