syíyaya Days at SCAC
Over the course of syíyaya Days (June 21st – July 1st 2025), the Sunshine Coast Arts Council will host three events, including two workshops and an exhibition.
Dream Café
Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 5pm – 7pm
With inspiration from Death Cafés and Indigenous sharing circles, this Dream Café is a chance to gather and share thoughts, ideas, questions, and curiosities that relate to death, dying, and dreaming over tea, coffee, and snacks. Many recognize the significance of dreams and dreaming for receiving knowledge and memories and maintaining connection with loved ones who have walked on. Feel free to share and listen to stories about dream visitations, lucid or prophetic dreams, mundane dreams, and consider how these help us prepare, grieve, and/or think about the various dimensions to do with death and dying. The intention of this gathering is to engage in conversations, share different ideas and views, and raise awareness of something we all face: death. Structured as a discussion group, this gathering is not meant to provide grief support or counselling. But should you need support, we can direct you to the appropriate resources. Registration link below.
Orange Heart Days
Sunday, June 29, 2025 from 12pm – 2pm
Come paint and inscribe orange hearts at the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre and inscribe them with your personal message of care. Take these home and place them in your community to bring awareness or save them to hang at the next Truth and Reconciliation march. All supplies provided. Registration not required.
Walking With Our Sisters Red Dress installation
Gallery opening hours: June 21, 22, 28, and 29, 2025 from 12pm – 4pm
This special red dress installation is made and shared in honour of the MMIWG2S and was created by the women, 2-spirit and gender-diverse people of the House of Songs Gathering Circle. The moccasin vamps (tops) included are inspired by the work of Indigenous artist, Christi Belcourt, and were hand stitched by members of the circle to represent the unfinished lives of missing and murdered women and girls.
