Class 1: Our Ancient Forests
Introduce the Dakota Bear Sanctuary in your class. What is an ancient forest? The forest is full of creatures, both hidden and visible. This workshop invites you to think about who lives in the forests. What types of homes and habitats do they create? Who is the forest a home for? Have students share a story about the last time they were in the forest. What do they remember? Have they ever seen a bear den? What do they imagine the home of a bear to look like?
Class 2: Creative Workshop
Working with the materials provided, watch the video below where Nadina Tandy works with you to explore your collage kit, and how to create an imaginative hidden creature. Mount your creature onto the stick. Name your creature. Describe where your creature might live? How does your creature move? What sounds does your creature make?
Class 3: Walking the Creature
With your creature as your companion, take a walk into the forest. Where would your creature live? How might your creature move? Can your creature dance? Have you seen an animal dance? What does your creature like to eat? Does your creature like the forest?
