Call for Submissions
Artists in Our Midst Residency and Studio Space
We are delighted to announce a call for artist proposals for a new residency space in downtown Sechelt. Artists in our Midst is a program open to artists/collectives/groups who live and work on the Sunshine Coast. It provides 3-months of free studio space in exchange for creating work(s) that engages and considers the public and public space. Located in a 1500 sqft storefront in downtown Sechelt, the space includes a washroom, sink facilities, a small storage room and a large visible storefront space. Floor to ceiling windows face onto a public square, which create an ideal space to showcase work and process in progress.
About the Program:
Selected artists or collectives will be provided three months of studio space, a $500 honorarium, and access to staffing, materials and facilities at the Art Centre to support the production of the public-related activities. These activities may include, but aren’t limited to: developing work for the windows of the space, creating an installation in the plaza, presenting performances either in the space or outside, or any other creative way to connect residents and visitors to art. All these activities will be developed considering physical distancing and strict cleaning protocols. While workshops and open studios may also be possible, artists will work closely with SCAC staff to determine how to proceed safely.
Residency Dates: July – September, 2020; October – December, 2020; January – March, 2021; April – June, 2021
