Artesia Coffee House – May 10

Artesia Coffee House – May 10

Artesia Coffee House – May 10th

  • Time: May 10, 7:30PM – doors at 6:45PM
  • Location: Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, 5714 Medusa St, Sechelt
  • Tickets: $20 (Eventbrite or at the door – We will always hold back a few at the door for those not online)

Artesia Coffee House is back for a new series this spring, presented by the Coast Cultural Alliance and the Sunshine Coast Arts Council.

The last Artesia Coffee House of the season will be happening again in the Doris Crowston Gallery of the Sunshine Coast Arts Centre in Sechelt, on Friday, May 10th at 7:30pm with doors opening at 6:45pm. Tickets are $20, and a limited number can be secured through Eventbrite to ensure your spot. The remainder will be available for purchase at the door. Delectable treats and beverages will be on offer, with donations graciously accepted.

The beautiful grand piano will again be making an appearance being played in the opening set by Lynne Urquhart singing deeply personal lyrics drawn from a palette of musical genres, supported by Michael Munro on drums and Gordie Birtch on bass. Next up is a father, daughter duo, new to the Coast, Abhishek (Abby) Khosla, and his daughter Aamin, a Grade 11 student from Chatelech Secondary, both on vocals and guitar. They will be performing some Sufi songs, some Bollywood and English mashups and I’m sure a few surprises.

After a brief intermission, reading for us will be literary aficionado Jan DeGrass who has enjoyed a career writing for newspapers and magazines. She has written in every genre, including two novels, a cookbook, and many published short stories. To end the evening will be resident musician / teacher Steve Wright on piano, guitar and vocals joined by Nicholas Simons, cello performing some heartfelt originals that ponder the meaning of life, often through a lens of humour. And, to close the evening and the season, a guest appearance and performance by the wonderful and infamous Complaints Choir.

A big thank you to all our musicians, volunteers, and audience for another amazing series of the Artesia Coffee House and we will see you again in the early months of 2025.
