Dreaming of d’ Light – I like to collect odd things that might end up in the garbage, always looking for opportunities to inspire or enhance a painting.
This 16″ x 20″ canvas was an old painting that I periodically covered with leftover acrylic paint from my palette. Over time, I added a piece of cheesecloth, lines of sheet music (from Mendelssohn’s “On Wings of Song”), part of a green mesh bag that held avocados from the grocery store, a “flow” of old beads from broken necklaces dating back a generation or two, and a piece of iron mesh which broke off from the screen I use to strain compost from our compost bins.
Undoubtedly, I have used fresh paint to enhance the composition! The title for this piece, “Dreaming of d’ Light”, is inspired by a line from Mendelssohn’s piece: “in dreams of endless delight”. My hope is that we might see some light – particularly the bright idea of using less plastic and creating less garbage.
