Film Screening + Dialogue: Commemorating the National Day of Truth + Reconciliation
Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, Sechelt, Free
We invite you to join us for an important event held in commemoration of the National Day of Truth + Reconciliation. Pairing a film screening with a dialogue, we ask how settlers contend with the responsibilities of enacting good relations on shíshálh and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh lands.
Film Screening: Augusta, by Anne Wheeler, 1976 (16 minutes), provided by the National Film Board
In conjunction with our current exhibition, we will screen a short documentary offering an intimate portrait of Mary Augusta Tappage Evans.
Dialogue: Land Learning: Reflections on responsibility, relationality, and being in place
Moderator: Kamala Todd
Participants: Matthew Lovegrove from the Sunshine Coast Museum and Archives, Stewart Stinson from the Gibsons Art Gallery, Joah Lui from Deer Crossing Art Farm and Sadira Rodrigues from the Sunshine Coast Arts Council.
Following the screening, join us for a dialogue sharing how local arts and culture organisations are tending to the work of enacting responsibilities and good relations on shíshálh and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh lands. It is an opportunity to learn, through projects and practices, the ways that artists and cultural practices contend with settler responsibilities and the legacies of colonialism. And the ways of transforming these towards right relations with the traditional stewards of these lands, air and waters.
