Join us for a conversation with the Sunshine Coast artists working in ceramics and clay whose new work is part of our current exhibition.
These virtual conversations will take place on Sunday, March 21st 2021 @ 2PM and Sunday, April 18th 2021 @ 2PM, each featuring a different group of artists from our upcoming Diversity in Clay exhibition. Pre-registration is required.
Featuring: Pat Forst, Elaine Futterman, Pia Sillem, Ray Niebergall
About the Artists:
Pat Forst’s unique style is inspired by the contours and textures of the world around us.
Pia Sillem’s pottery is fired in a wood kiln, which creates unique effects that cannot be achieved or duplicated in any other way.
Elaine Futterman and Mike Allegretti of Creek Clayworks use salt firing. They put salt into their gas kiln and the sodium combines with silica in the clay to form glaze, a method that originated in Germany in the 1700s. There are often some surprises when they open the kiln to see what patterns the salt has made on the pots. The process produces luminous, almost alchemical surfaces.
Bev and Ray Niebergall will display their clay creations that range from functional ware to decorative and sculptural works.
