Andrew Scott is an award-winning author, journalist, editor and photographer who is also a traveller, best known locally for his exploration of the remote reaches of BC’s south coast. Andrew’s precise and thorough knowledge is remarkable in his work as an editor and writer for the Encyclopedia of BC and in books such as his Secret Coastline (winner of a BC Book prize for 2000) and culminating in his Encyclopedia of Raincoast Place Names (2009) winner of Roderick Haig-Brown BC Book Prize and the Lieutenant Governor’s Medal for History.

In Under the Bright Sky, A Memoir of Travels Through Asia, Andrew brings the same lively curiosity, sensitivity and well-informed understanding to his travels through ten countries over the course of thirty years. He begins by providing the reader with helpful context by sketching an outline of the special connectedness of Asia and our West Coast. His choice of the memoir form enhances the depth of human perspective in what Wayne Grady calls “ that rare travel book that combines a stunning sense of place and history with sensitive portraits of the people.”

How to access the reading and to register for the programme of readings:
The Spring 2022 readings will take place on Zoom. You need to have access to a computer with video and sound, and a stable internet connection. Zoom also works with a smartphone or tablet. We encourage you to sign up early so that you can test out the link to make sure it works well for you.

Registration is free and space is limited. Register for only one link per household, even if you will have multiple people join. Once you register on Eventbrite, you will receive a link to the Zoom livestream for the event. On the day of the event, click on the link provided in your registration confirmation. This will take you directly to the reading livestream.
